As the capital of Anhui Province, Hefei is the hub of politics, economy, culture, information, transportation, finance and commerce in the province. It is a national comprehensive science center and an important national research and education base as well. Besides, it is a strategic city of the “Belt and Road” Initiative and the Yangtze River Economic Belt as well as member city of the Yangtze River Delta Urban Economic Coordination Committee.

Up to now, there have been 180,000 beds for accommodation in Hefei (including hotels in the three counties). There are about 65 hotels, ranging from three-star to five-star around Hefei Binhu International Convention Center in 8 km, with about 11,000 guest rooms and 15,000 beds available.
Hefei Xinqiao International Airport is an international 4E trunk line airport. As of November 26, 2018, the passenger flow volume of Hefei Xinqiao International Airport exceeded 10 million and the airport thus becomes a member of the “10-million-level airport club”. There are 23 city terminal buildings across the province, a total of 51 domestic routes as well as 13 international and regional routes opened, including to Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Cambodia and Germany.
The first route of Hefei Rail Transit was officially opened on December 26, 2016, and thus Hefei becomes the first city in Anhui Province and the seventh city in the Yangtze River Delta that has opened the subway. As of 2018, Rail Transit Line 1 has been operating smoothly, Line 2 is officially opened to traffic, with the maximum passenger flow exceeding 570,000 per day, and Line 3, 4 and 5 are being constructed in full swing.
As a national comprehensive transportation hub and one of the largest transportation junctions in Asia as well, Hefeinan Railway Station is the “Big Four High-speed Railway Stations of East China” along with Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, Nanjingnan Railway Station and Hangzhoudong Railway Station. Hefei Railway Station operates the ordinary trains and railways high-speed trains as well as railway freight, which effectively supplements the transportation function of Hefeinan Railway Station.
